tennis in chittagong part II: ball boys

i am back in chittagong for the spring semester, after spending time in korea and the states over winter break. also, my computer is working again, after having problems for most of december. so i intend to post more photos and reflections in the coming weeks and months.

in the fall, i posted some photos from a trip to the tennis courts in chittagong. however, the best photos were not of AUW faculty players, but the kids at the courts. a group of boys stood around watching us, or playing soccer, or wrestling with one another, or posing when the camera came out -- or posing and wrestling at the same time. (see below) one of them worked diligently as a ball boy for us, and at the end we paid him for his efforts.

one of the delightful things about taking pictures in bangladesh is that, for the most part, people really like to have their pictures taken. this is especially true of children. though for some reason, posing for a group photo often quickly evolves (degenerates? develops?) into a wrestling match.

  1. I always think that if a sport like soccer or in this case, Tennis can help the poor and little children to stay away from drugs and vices and help them to be disciplined and maybe to practice the sport for living, it is a gift for them and for humanity
